Description
World of Sam is a web site about all things concerning the Sam Coupé home computer. It was first launched in 2005 with the stated purposes of:
- To collect information and files relating to the Sam Coupé, before everything is lost to the mists of time and floppy disk sector errors.
- Wherever possible, to make all that data available for everybody to download, and serve as a resource for any visitors looking for all information about the Sam.
Wherever possible, disk images should be exact duplicates of original disk distributions. Copy-protected disks can be precisely represented by the Extended Disk Format (.dsk) which is supported by SAMDisk Utility and SimCoupe. Both programs also transparently support zip/gz compressed versions of these files.
The site’s copyright policy says that images won’t be made available without the authors’ permission. However, collecting images in advance of getting such permission means that:
- disk image files are not subject to the degradation of old floppy disks. With a central database, we have a record of which programs have been imaged and which are still vulnerable.
- the better-populated this site, and the more enthusiasm shown by its contributors, the more likely it is that copyright-holders will grant permission for their programs to be included. And if an image was already contributed, it can be made downloadable as soon as that occurs.
