The Holdfast Joypad was robustly constructed with an internal steel chassis and solid rubber base, it plugged into the standard Atari Joystick port.
Originally conceived as a computer input device for early learning, it is far easier to use than a mouse, keyboard or even a conventional joystick. Its bright yellow colour and big red buttons are attractive to small children and it is aimed at the pre-school market before children are old enough to cope with conventional input devices.
The SAM Coupé proved the ideal partner and some exceptional children have been able to use them from as young as six months!
